Many of the Scott’s Cheap Flights team members had their first international travel experience when they studied abroad. This inevitably led many of us to keep exploring the world and traveling whenever we could get the chance. We’d like to give others this same opportunity.

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be:
- A permanent U.S. resident
- Enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited higher education program by the fall semester of 2017
- Studying abroad or planning to study abroad in the 2017 or 2018 school year

Applicants submitting their application via the form below must complete all parts. Applicants emailing in the application must include the following information to qualify for consideration:
- Subject line of the email must be: Study Abroad Scholarship Application
- His or her first and last name
- Valid email address
- Permanent mailing address
- Date of birth
- Institution to be attended Fall 2017
- Area of study
- Anticipated study abroad location
- Anticipated study abroad date (month/year)
- Anticipated college graduation date (month/year)
- 500-1000 word essay in response to the prompt below
The selected finalist will be contacted directly via email and asked for a series of documentation to verify eligibility.
The application for the Fall 2017 scholarship will close on October 15th, 2017 at 11:59pm PST and will be awarded by October 31st, 2017.
The essay should fully answer the question: “Why is travel important to you?”
A panel of judges will review the applications. The panel will select the most compelling and thoughtful essay as the winner.

Winner will receive a one-time scholarship check of $1,000 to be used for study abroad expenses.

Yes. As long as you are enrolled at an accredited higher education program in the United States and will be studying abroad you can apply.
Is this scholarship open to high school students?
No, this scholarship is for higher education programs only.

Is there an age limit for this scholarship?
No, as long as you’re enrolled at an accredited higher education program and will be studying abroad, you can apply.
Can I apply if I am in a continuing education course/language immersion program/ mission retreat/dissertation research trips/international research conferences etc…
No, this scholarship is only available to students at an accredited higher education program that will be studying abroad as part of that program.
Does SCF consider study abroad during the summer session as an eligible term to qualify?
Yes, as long as you are enrolled at an accredited higher education program and will be studying abroad while you’re enrolled.
Can I submit an infographic or another form of media in place of an essay?
No, we require a 500-1000 word essay.
Can I apply if I am enrolled in a post-graduate course at an international school?
No, you must be enrolled in an accredited higher education program in the United States and studying abroad as part of that program.
If I am going to school in the Fall of 2018, do I qualify?
No. The Fall 2017 scholarship is for those students studying abroad between Fall 2017 and Summer 2018. We recommend applying for the Spring 2018 scholarship which will be for students studying abroad between Spring 2018 and Fall 2018.
Can I donate to the SCF scholarship fund?
While we thank you for your kind offer, we are not currently set up for donations at this time. We will definitely consider this for next years program!
No purchase necessary. The Scott’s Cheap Flights Study Abroad Scholarship is open to any citizen and/or resident of the United States (and its territories and possessions) who will be enrolled full-time at an accredited institution of higher learning for Fall Semester 2017. All other entries will be disqualified.
Each student may only submit one entry. If it is determined that a participant has entered with more than one identity, all of the participant’s submissions will be disqualified.
Application period starts on August 20th, 2017 at 8am PST. Winner will be notified via email on or before October 31st, 2017. Scholarship money will be awarded no later than November 15th, 2017.
All portions of the application must be answered and all requested documents must be attached.
Failure to fully answer the essay question or provide all documentation could deem an application ineligible.
To be considered for the scholarship, all applicants must be planning to study abroad in the 2017 or 2018 school year.
Once submitted, no confirmation email will be sent to the applicant and any other requests related to the application will not guarantee a response from Scotts Cheap Flights.
No notification will be sent to non-winning applicants.
The essay must have a title and be written in English.
Essays must be original and factually accurate, and they must not be in the public domain. The submission of false information will result in automatic disqualification. By submitting an essay to the Scott’s Cheap Flights Study Abroad Scholarship, each student acknowledges his or her understanding of and compliance with these rules. Scott’s Cheap Flights reserves the right to disqualify any entry deemed inappropriate for publication per the company’s discretion.
All entries must be received no later than October 15th, 2017 at 11:59pm PST to be eligible for the scholarship.
Scholarship awards are non-transferable. Competition is void where prohibited or restricted by law. Winner will be solely responsible for any federal, state or local taxes. Winner must provide an email address to which Scott’s Cheap Flights can email the winner a publicity release and a W-9 for tax purposes in order to qualify for receipt of the scholarship award in the amount of $1,000. Once completed, winner must provide a valid mailing address to which the scholarship check will be mailed.
**All essays and all rights to their publication become the property of Scott’s Cheap Flights, which may use, edit and excerpt these entries for purposes promotional or otherwise including placing them online without compensation, additional or otherwise. Scott’s Cheap Flights reserves the right to use the winners’ names and other basic information in any advertising or promotional materials relating to this scholarship without further notification, permission, or compensation to the winner, except where prohibited by law.
