open-jaw to South Africa & Europe in the $400s/$500s roundtrip! (5* airline)
A great deal which takes you to both South Africa and Europe for as low as $440 on one of the top-rated airlines in the world!
Note: The prices listed below are for the open-jaw portion. To get back to the US you’ll just need to add a one-way from Europe. In general, it’s not too hard to find a ticket for around $150-$350 or 25-30k miles from many major European cities.
The price varies by route, but this deal works with a bunch of different European cities (see a sample list below). For the most part, the cheapest fares are to ATH, SOF, and TXL. Note that not every city-pair works with this deal. It may take a little trial-and-error to find what you want.
If your Qatar Airways flight has a long layover in Doha, remember you can get a complimentary tour of the city between flights. On some routes, you may also be eligible for a free night of accommodation.
No bag fees on the way over but you may need to pay for a bag on your return flight back to the US.
South Africa leg:
Atlanta (ATL) – $572
Boston (BOS) – $440
Chicago (ORD) – $544
Houston (IAH) – $562
New York City (JFK) – $458
Philadelphia (PHL) – $541
Pittsburgh (PIT) – $498
Tampa (TPA) – $498
Washington DC (BWI) – $483
Washington DC (IAD) – $472
Generally January through May and September through November 2018. Some routes include peak summer for a little higher.
We think these fares will last a day or two.
This one is a little more complex, but you can do it :-)
(1) US city to South Africa to Europe: Search in Google Flights using the sample search below. Play around with the dates and you should find plenty of availability. Book directly with Qatar Airways there.
A bunch of different dates seem to be working for the US-South Africa-Europe portion of the trip; just play around with it in Google Flights to find your ideal cheap dates. The key is to then pair it with a city in Europe that you want to visit and that has inexpensive one-way fares back to North America (or good award availability). In general we found the cheapest availability for flights leaving the US Monday through Wednesday.
Otherwise, we recommend playing around with Kayak or Google Flights and Momondo to find a cheap one-way home, or better yet, use frequent flyer miles for a free one-way from Europe to the US!
Here’s a sample trip over Thanksgiving:
March 6: NYC to Johannesburg
March 13: Johannesburg to Sofia – $458
March 18: Sofia to NYC – $244
- These fares could disappear anytime, even within a few hours. If you’ve clicked the sample searches, played around with a few dates, and not seeing fares close to those listed in this email, it likely means they’re gone :-(
